Entry Level Police Officer - Apply here

In order to be eligible for the position of patrol officer with the Willowbrook Police Department, at the time of original appointment to the Police Department, a person must meet each of the following minimum requirements in addition to any other requirements imposed by law or ordinance:

  • Age: 21 years of age to under 35 years of age at time of application and at such time as the initial eligibility list is posted (unless otherwise exempt by statute).
  • US Citizen: United States citizen, or an individual who is not a citizen but who is legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law or is an individual against whom immigration action has been deferred by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services under the federal Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) process, subject to the individual being authorized under federal law to obtain, carry, or purchase or otherwise possess a firearm.
  • High School Grad/GED: Yes
  • Valid Driver’s License: Yes
  • Ability to Read/Speak English :Yes
  • Vision: Eyesight correctable to 20/20 in each eye, normal depth perception and no color blindness that would prevent an individual from performing the essential functions of the job.
  • College One of the following:  Possess an Associate's degree or having completed at least sixty (60) semester hours or at least ninety (90) quarter hours of credit from an accredited college/university.
    The College requirement may be waived if one or more of the following applies:
    (1) the applicant has served for 24 months of honorable active duty in the United States Armed Forces and has not been discharged dishonorably or under circumstances other than honorable or
    (2) the applicant has served for 180 days of active duty in the United States Armed Forces in combat duty recognized by the Department of Defense and has not been discharged dishonorably or under circumstances other than honorable.
  • Academy Certification: Must successfully complete academy training assigned after employment.
  • Prior Experience: Not required

Additional Requirements:  

-Valid Illinois Peace Officer Wellness Evaluation Report (POWER) test card issued by a licensed agency issued within the last six (6) months.  POWER Cards accepted from these licensed agencies: NIPSTA, Joliet Junior College, Triton College
-No felony convictions involving moral turpitude, as specified in 65 ILCS 5/10-2.1-6;


Lateral Transfer Police Officer - Apply here

The Willowbrook Police Department accepts applications from full-time sworn police officers in an effort to aid in recruitment and create a lateral entry eligibility. The Willowbrook Police Department is comprised of 27 full-time sworn police officers including the Chief of Police, and three full-time civilian employees.   • Age: 21 years of age to under 35 years of age at time of application and at such time as the initial eligibility list is posted (unless otherwise exempt by statute).
  • US Citizen: United States citizen, or an individual who is not a citizen but who is legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law or is an individual against whom immigration action has been deferred by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services under the federal Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) process, subject to the individual being authorized under federal law to obtain, carry, or purchase or otherwise possess a firearm.

  • Prior Experience:
    • To be considered for lateral hire, applicants must have been employed, whether currently or in the past, for at least (2) years as a full-time, non-probationary, sworn law enforcement officer by a Federal, State, County or local law enforcement agency. Applicants must be in good standing with the agency in which they served. (Part-time certification as a law enforcement officer does not meet this requirement.)
    • Candidates must have also successfully completed the Illinois Basic Law Enforcement Academy and possess certification from the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board or be qualified to take the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board "Out of State Reciprocity" examination. (Part-time certification as a law enforcement officer does not meet this requirement.)
  • Additional Requirements:  
    • No felony convictions involving moral turpitude, as specified in 65 ILCS 5/10-2.1-6.
    • Agree to comply with all requirements of the position and have the ability to pass all examinations and training requirements.
    • Be in good standing with the agency in which the applicant currently serves or has separated from in good standing, with no adverse employment action.
    • Be eligible to be granted a waiver of basic training from the Illinois Law Enforcement Training & Standards Board (ILETSB).
    • Agree to comply with all requirements regarding Tattoos and Body Art Restrictions contained in the Rules and Regulations of the Willowbrook Police Department.


Willowbrook Police Department Internship - Non-paid

This program that will allow selected students from recognized colleges and universities who are pursuing a degree in the field of Criminal Justice to experience and observe the day-to-day operations and functions of the Willowbrook Police Department.  The Willowbrook Police Department partners with recognized colleges and universities that have an active internship program, to provide a supervised internship program for selected students pursuing degrees in the field of Criminal Justice or related field. Interns are under the supervision of the Internship Coordinator, and the intent of this program is to enhance the caliber of people entering the law enforcement profession, and as a recruiting tool.  This is a non-paid internship.  Click here to view the internship application.
