[ARCHIVED] New Police Chief Announced

On April 12, 2010 the Village of Willowbrook Board of Trustees approved the appointment of Mark Shelton as Chief of Police. Since January 2010, Shelton has been serving as the Interim Police Chief. The Board felt the leadership he has demonstrated during this interim period and throughout his distinguished career at the Village made him the best candidate for the position.

Shelton was first hired by the Village in 1987 as a Patrol Officer, and he rose quickly in the Department—being promoted to Commander of Police in 1999 and to the Deputy Chief of Administration in 2006. He celebrated his 20 year anniversary of serving the Willowbrook community in 2007.

His actions over the years show a true sense of caring, dedication, and duty. Shelton was the Department’s D.A.R.E. officer early in his career. In both 2003 and 2006 he received service awards recognizing him for heroic actions to end violent situations. Shelton, along with fellow Police officers, continues to work diligently to ensure a safe environment for all residents, businesses, and visitors.

Outside of his community involvement, Shelton has played an integral role in the effective operation of the Police department. He has been actively involved in the accreditation and re-certification process with the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA), which recognizes the Willowbrook for its high standards and excellent service reputation.

Questions regarding the appointment process should be directed to Mary Partyka at the Village of Willowbrook.
