The 2010 Census is now underway and on behalf of the US Census Bureau the Village of Willowbrook is asking all Willowbrook residents to “take 10 minutes” to complete and mail back their 2010 Census forms. The US Census Bureau has issued the “Take 10 Challenge” which is a challenge to all US citizens to beat their 2000 Census mail back rate. The 2000 Census national mail back rate was 72%. Currently, the national mail back rate for the 2010 Census is at 56%.
Locally, the Village of Willowbrook currently has a 64% mail back rate—putting us nearly 10% above the national average. While the 64% is impressive with respect to the current national average of 56%, Willowbrook is currently well below our local 2000 Census mail back rate of 82%. If you have not yet completed your 2010 Census form, please take the time to fill it out and return it. Remember that Census data helps determine how more than $400 BILLION in federal funds are distributed to state and local governments each year. A complete count will help ensure our community will receive its fair share of Census-based funding for the next ten years. If everyone across the nation mailed back their form, taxpayers could reduce the cost of taking the Census by about $1.5 billion.
