Dear Willowbrook Community:
I would like to follow up on items brought up from last night’s public forum.
Village staff is working with our Village attorney on the zoning review and analysis of both Sterigenics facilities in town. In addition, the Village Building Official is reviewing the type and quantities of all potentially hazardous chemicals used at both facilities to confirm compliance with the Village’s building and fire codes. Both updates will be posted on the Village website by Wednesday, September 5, 2018.
This afternoon I visited with the owner of the Sterigenics buildings. He said he has had no problem with the company as a tenant. When asked about the term of the lease, he respectfully declined to answer.
I have written a follow up letter to the heads of the US EPA Region 5, ATSDR and IEPA reiterating our demands to move up testing, perform ambient monitoring addressing ethylene oxide (EtO) in the air and request answers for items that were not addressed last night.
While we were able to live stream most of last night on Facebook, the entire forum was recorded and we are in the process of posting the video with a link on the village website. In addition, we are creating a new tab on the village website to house all the information we are gathering.
In the letter I mentioned earlier, we are still seeking information from the agencies, but we are not going to rest on that alone. We are engaging our task force to help us get answers from independent resources. Please continue to send your questions to VillageOfWillowbrook@gmail.com or leave a message at 708-457-7399.
