For the last three days, we have been in constant contact with the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA), the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) and DuPage County health officials.
The ATSDR, whose parent agency is the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), authored the report regarding emissions at the Sterigenics facility.
Today (Sunday) we were advised by the US EPA that the only agency authorized to address health-related questions about this report is the ATSDR.
We are working with US EPA to help coordinate an open meeting early this week with all of these agencies so their representatives can provide timely information. Rep. Jim Durkin and state Sen. John Curran, who are assisting us with state and federal outreach, will attend.
We have retained the services of Renee Cipriano, the former director of the IEPA and one of the state’s leading experts in environmental law.
We will continue to update you on the village website www.willowbrookil.us.
