The Village-wide mosquito spraying, which was scheduled to occur this evening (7/15), will be postponed until next week due to the projected overnight low temperatures. Mosquito activity diminishes greatly when there is a drop in temperature and humidity. A mosquito spraying treatment (i.e., ultra low volume fogger) relies on mosquitos to be active to be most effective. Since this will not be the case this evening, with overnight lows projected to drop to 52°F, the decision was made to postpone the Village-wide spraying treatment until next week, when evening temperatures will be higher.
Even with the lower temperatures, it is still advised that residents take precautions when outside especially around dusk. The DuPage County Health Department recommends the use of mosquito repellents with about 30% DEET (about 10% DEET for children age 2-12). Adults should supervise repellent use on children. Do not use any repellents on children under 2 years of age without consulting your doctor. Apply them to clothes whenever possible and apply sparingly to skin if the label permits.
