As of 12:00 Noon on April 18, 2013, The Village received over 6” of rainfall in an approximate 20 hour period of time. As a result, storm water systems exceeded their capacity and overflowed. There are still several roadways that remain impassable as storm waters continue to recede. Due to the flooding, DuPage County Board Chairman Dan Cronin declared a State of Emergency in DuPage County. Governor Quinn has also declared a State of Emergency in Illinois for 38 counties, which includes DuPage.
All DuPage County towns are asked to submit damage assessments to be used to submit to FEMA towards a possible Presidential Disaster Declaration. In order for this event to qualify for federal assistance, a loss threshold of $3.2 million in DuPage County and a combined loss of $17.6 million throughout the 38 counties must be reached. The Village is completing the necessary damage assessments forms to be submitted to the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) to be used to qualify for the Declaration. As part of this recovery process, the Village would ask that any resident that experienced flood damage in their homes as a result of this storm report the extent of the damage to the Village. This will enable the Village to include the estimated loss on our damage assessment forms. Those residents that did experience damage should also take photographs and save any receipts or invoices for storm related repair work or replacements, in case federal assistance is approved. If you have any questions, please contact the Village Hall at 630-323-8215.
