Explorer Program
Wanted
We want young men and women between the ages of 16 and 19, 15 years of age and a freshman in high school, to join the program. This program was established in October 1992 to afford qualified persons the opportunity to affiliate themselves with a law enforcement agency prior to reaching the eligible age for appointment as police officers. The program is designed to attract young adults of outstanding ability and to:
- Provide comprehensive training, competitions, service, and practical and recreational experience
- Promote character development, physical fitness, good citizenship, and patriotism
- Make effective use of their services in a supplementary police capacity
- Encourage their interest and enthusiasm for a career in law enforcement
After Training is Complete
After completing the basic training program, explorers will be able to ride along with officers during their patrol shift. Explorers may have the opportunity to put all of their training to work by attending the State of Illinois Law Enforcement Explorer conferences and the National Law Enforcement Explorer conferences. During their participation at these conferences, the explorers have earned numerous awards and trophies, which included a first place trophy in the Nation for Crime Scene Search.
Registration
If you are interested in the Explorer Program, applications are available Monday through Friday, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm at the Willowbrook Police Department located at 7760 Quincy Street. This program is associated with the Exploring Division of the Boy Scouts of America and is chartered as Law Enforcement Explorer Post 500.
